They’re about the people whose lives intersect with them: the families, communities, relationships and experiences that reveal something bigger about how we live. Relatively Speaking finds those stories and turns them into documentaries that can stand entirely on their own.

Our partners make those stories possible because they believe the conversation matters. The films remain editorially led, observational in style and guided by journalistic curiosity. We don’t begin with key messages or try to squeeze real people into a predetermined narrative. We begin by asking a much more interesting question: where is the human story?

That independence matters. It allows us to make films that feel genuinely truthful — and allows audiences to trust what they’re watching. The organisation’s values emerge through the people and stories it chooses to support, rather than through claims made about itself. The result is work that can build connection and reputation without behaving like advertising.

We only enter partnerships where there is genuine alignment between the stories we want to tell and the organisation supporting them. That might mean exploring family, identity, ageing, belonging, education, community, recovery, heritage or any of the countless relationships that shape our lives. Every partnership begins with a conversation about the people and questions that deserve a wider audience.

Some partnerships begin with a single Editorial Film, others develop into an Editorial Series, following several people or stories around a shared theme, community or question over months or even years. The scale can change. The principle doesn’t.
